After reaching mass production some disagreements occurred between production and
consumption processes on the time and property areas. In order to remove these
disagreements and convey the the items that cannot be consumed in the production area
to the consumers distribution channels and intermediaries emerged.
Distribution channels are indispensable tools both for country economy and for
company economy, and their effectiveness are causing increases in the gross national
products.
The path through which goods and services travel from the vendor to the consumer or
payments for those products travel from the consumer to the vendor, is called as
distribution channel. A distribution channel can be as short as a direct transaction from
the vendor to the consumer, or may include several interconnected intermediaries along
the way such as wholesalers, distributers, agents and retailers. Each intermediary
receives the item at one pricing point and movies it to the next higher pricing point until
it reaches the final buyer. Coffee does not reach the consumer before first going through
a channel involving the farmer, exporter, importer, distributor and the retailer. Also
called the channel of distribution. The effectiveness of this system is dependent on its
design.
Üretimin kitlesel bir nitelik almasından sonra, üretim ve tüketim süreçleri arasında yer,
zaman ve mülkiyet faydaları uyuşmazlığı ortaya çıkmıştır. Ortaya çıkan bu
uyuşmazlıkları gidermek ve üretimin yerinde tüketilemeyen büyük kısmını nihai
kullanıcılara ulaştırmak maksadı ile dağıtım kanalları ve aracılar oluşmuştur. Dağıtım
kanalları hem ülke ekonomisi hem de işletme ekonomisi açısından vazgeçilmez bir
araçtır ve etkinliği ülkelerin gayri safi milli hâsılalarının artmasına yol açmaktadır.
Bir mal veya hizmetin ilk üreticisinden son kullanıcıya ulaştırılması ve ulaşım
esnasında izlediği yollar dağıtım kanalları ve dağıtım kanalı sistemi olarak tanımlanır.
Bu sistemin faaliyette bulunabilmesi için bir takım aracılara gerek vardır. Dağıtım
kanallarında bu aracılar, toptancılar, perakendeciler, acenteler, üreticiler ve tüketiciler
şeklinde genel bir sınıflandırmaya tabi tutulabilir.
