    The unprecedented increase of heterogeneous devices connected to the Internet, along with tight requirements of future networks, including 5G and beyond, poses new design challenges to network infrastructures. Collaborative computing, caching and communication paradigm together with artificial intelligence have the potential to enable the Next-Generation Networking Infrastructure (NGNI) that is needed to fulfill the stringent requirements of emerging applications. In this paper, we propose the SCORING project vision for reshaping the current network infrastructure towards an NGNI acting as a truly distributed, collaborative, and pervasive system that enables the execution of application-specific tasks and the storage of the related data contents in the Cloud-Edge-Mist continuum with high QoS/QoE guarantees.

    Characterizing Attenuation of Bumper Modifications: A Comparative Study in the E-Band

    Having knowledge about the attenuation of the materials surrounding a radar sensor is of great importance in the automotive sector. Only then can the manufacturer guarantee the desired functionality of the sensor. Due to the fact that a lot of automotive manufacturers also started integrating radar sensors behind rear bumpers for improved visibility to the back of a car, it is vital to know how those bumpers and possible repair scenarios done to them can affect the radar sensor. This paper proposes a way to measure the attenuation in the E-band of not only square slab samples representing various types of paint and repair scenarios on automotive bumpers, but also actual rear bumpers with different types of repair scenarios. The results are then presented and compared relative to each other.

    Assistive Visual Tool: Enhancing Safe Navigation with Video Remapping in AR Headsets

    Visual Field Loss (VFL) is characterized by blind spots or scotomas that poses detrimental impact on fundamental movement activities of individuals. Addressing the challenges (e.g., low video quality, content loss, high levels of contradiction, and limited mobility assessment) faced by existing Extended Reality (XR) systems as vision aids, we introduce a groundbreaking method that enriches the real-time navigation using Augmented Reality (AR) glasses. Our novel vision aid employs advanced video processing techniques to enhance visual perception in individuals with moderate to severe VFL, bridging the gap to healthy vision. A unique optimal video remapping function, tailored to our selected AR glasses characteristics, dynamically maps live video content to the largest intact region of the Visual Field (VF) map. Our method preserves video quality, minimizing blurriness and distortion. Through a comprehensive empirical user study involving 29 subjects with artificially induced scotomas, statistical analyses of object counting and multi-tasking walking track tests demonstrate the promising performance of our method in enhancing visual awareness and navigation capability in real-time.

    Throughput-maximizing OFDMA Scheduler for IEEE 802.11ax Networks

    In this paper, we develop a novel throughput-maximizing OFDMA scheduler for the multi-user MAC framework for the IEEE 802.11ax networks. The scheduler works both in the downlink and uplink directions and assigns resource units to stations using a linear programming technique considering load of each client, possible resource unit configurations, modulation-coding scheme of each client, and ageing factor of each client's load. The performance of the proposed scheduler has been evaluated using the NS3 simulator and compared against the legacy MAC layer mechanism of IEEE 802.11 protocol (i.e., DCF/EDCA). Simulation results show that our proposed throughput-maximizing scheduler increases the total throughput in the network as well as decrease the average end-to-end delay regardless of the number of stations connected to the access point by prioritizing the traffic of clients connected via high modulation-coding schemes.

    Deciding which technology is the best for distance education: Issues in media/technology comparisons studies

    Distance education decision makers, who will be shaping the future of distance education, should understand the role of different technologies and their unique attributes closely. In order to achieve this task accurately, they also need to know the superiorities of different technologies to each other. Media comparison studies have been conducted to see these superiorities and to help deciding which technology is better? In some studies researchers make some fundamental errors and flaws in media comparison studies for distance learning. Hence, there is a need to determine these issues in order to make decision process work better. In this review study, issues on media comparison studies in distance education discussed with theoretical backgrounds. Also in this study, reader could find what kind of flaws can occur in media comparisons studies and what cause to these flaws as well as some suggestions to avoid these flaws. In this study, five of the most significant errors scholars have made in writing and discussing distance education research in technology/media comparisons studies are determined. This study aims to help distance education policy makers, distance education researchers and instructors by making them aware of these issues in comparison studies.     On the Structural Code Clone Detection Problem: A Survey and Software Metric Based Approach

    Unnecessary repeated codes (clones) have not been well documented and are difficult to maintain. Code clones may become an important problem in software development cycle and they must be fixed in all occurrences. This condition increases significantly software maintenance costs and required effort/duration for understanding the code. Over the years, many techniques have been proposed in order to minimize or prevent the code cloning problems. The main focus of these techniques is on the detection of clones. In such studies, code cloning is studied under two main categories: simple and structural. Simple clone is defined as the similarity that arises from the repetition of the code snippet in the software. Structural clone is defined as the similarity in software structure (i.e. design patterns and object oriented programming class relations). Simple clone detection techniques fail to determine the reasons of code repetition whether it is due to design or not, as they do not look at the code from a wider perspective for repetitive code snippets. In this study, we survey the existing structural clones approaches. We also introduce an approach that utilizes software quality metrics for detecting the structural code clones.

    Is SMS Still Alive For Education: Analysis Of Educational Potentials Of SMS technology?

    Mobile phone, especially SMS concept is a fairly old technology. In spite of the fact that there are some applications of using SMS capabilities of mobile phones in education, the usage is not widely in all educational areas. Still, there is a need to understand how SMS technology could be applicable for education in different ways. Hence, in this study, authors' investigate possible educational use of SMS by providing a detailed analysis of the technology and examples of different research studies of successful implementations in education. This study may be a guide for school administrators and policy makers to understand educational technology potential of SMS by providing benefits and drawbacks of the technology.     SkNet: A Convolutional Neural Networks Based Classification Approach for Skin Cancer Classes

    Skin Cancer is one of the most common types of cancer. A solution for this globally recognized health problem is much required. Machine Learning techniques have brought revolutionary changes in the field of biomedical researches. Previously, It took a significant amount of time and much effort in detecting skin cancers. In recent years, many works have been done with Deep Learning which made the process a lot faster and much more accurate. In this paper, We have proposed a novel Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) based approach that can classify four different types of Skin Cancer. We have developed our model SkNet consisting of 19 convolution layers. In previous works, the highest accuracy gained on 1000 images was 80.52%. Our proposed model exceeded that previous performance and achieved an accuracy of 95.26% on a dataset of 4800 images which is the highest acquired accuracy.

    Optimizing the rate of a correlated MIMO link jointly over channel estimation and data transmission parameters

    We consider a single-user correlated MIMO channel with block fading, where each block is divided into training and data transmission phases. The receiver has a noisy CSI that it obtains through a channel estimation process, while the transmitter has partial CSI in the form of covariance feedback. We optimize the achievable rate jointly over the parameters of the training and data transmission phases. In particular, we first choose the training signal to minimize the channel estimation error, and then, develop an iterative algorithm to solve for the optimum training duration, the optimum allocation of power between training and data transmission phases, and the optimum allocation of power over the antennas during the data transmission phase.

    Hardware implementations of ECC processors based on Edwards curves are very useful for various applications of security due to the regularity of point operations. In this paper we explore one such direction taking advantage of the DFT modular multiplication in a special composite field of a prime characteristic. Our results show potential in terms of compactness while maintaining a feasible latency. We expect this approach to be more beneficial for side-channel security.
