Publication Metadata only Combined ligand and structure-based virtual screening approaches for identification of novel AChE inhibitors(2020) Kader Sahin; Serdar Durdagi; BAHÇEŞEHİR ÜNİVERSİTESİ; BAHÇEŞEHİR ÜNİVERSİTESİThe excessive activity of acetylcholinesterase enzyme (AChE) causes different neuronal problems, especiallydementia and neuronal cell deaths. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved drugs donepezil, rivastigmine, tacrine and galantamine are AChE inhibitors and in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) these drugs are currentlyprescribed. However, these inhibitors have various adverse side effects. Therefore, there is a great need for the novelselective AChE inhibitors with fewer adverse side effects for the effective treatment. In this study, combined ligand-basedand structure-based virtual screening approaches were used to identify new hit compounds from small molecules libraryof National Cancer Institute (NCI) containing approximately 265,000 small molecules. In the present study, we developeda computational pipeline method to predict the binding affinities of the studied compounds at the specific target sites. For this purpose, a text mining study was carried out initially and compounds containing the keyword “indol” wereconsidered. The therapeutic activity values against AD were screened using the binary quantitative structure activityrelationship (QSAR) models. We then performed docking, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and free energy analysisto clarify the interactions between selected ligands and enzyme. Thus, in this study we identified new promising hitcompounds from a large database that may be used to inhibit the enzyme activity of AChE.Publication Metadata only The Correlation Between Systemic Inflammatory Response And Survival in Patients with Metachronous and Synchronous Liver Metastatic Colorectal Cancer(2020) Esra ERKEK TURAN; Elif Alp POSTEKİ; Gokhan POSTEKİ; Ahmet ERKEK; Mehmet ALİUSTAOGLU; T.C. SAĞLIK BAKANLIĞI; T.C. SAĞLIK BAKANLIĞI; T.C. SAĞLIK BAKANLIĞI; BAHÇEŞEHİR ÜNİVERSİTESİ; YEDİTEPE ÜNİVERSİTESİObjectives: Recent data suggest that a low lymphocyte count in a colorectal tumor is associated with poor prognosis. The NLR has been shown to be an effective prognostic factor for survival in colorectal and ovarian cancer. It has beensuggested that the preoperative NLR may be a simple method to identify patients with a poor prognosis of colorectalcancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the NLR on survival in patients with colorectal cancer whounderwent liver metastasectomy. Methods: The study included 76 patients who were admitted to the Medical Oncology Outpatient Clinic of Kartal Dr.Lutfi Kırdar Training and Research Hospital, who underwent liver metastasectomy and were followed up for colorectalcancer and whose clinical data and pre-metastasectomy laboratory values could be retrieved. The SPSS 17.0 softwarepackage was used in the analysis of the study. The mean, standard deviation, minimum-maximum, median, rate andfrequency values were used for the descriptive statistics of the data. The distribution of the variables was assessed bythe Kolmogorov Smirnov test. The independent samples t-test and Mann-Whitney U test were used for the analysis ofquantitative data. The chi-square test was used for analysis of qualitative data. The Cox regression and Kaplan-Meiersurvival analysis were used for survival analyses. Spearman’s correlation analysis was used for correlation analyses. Results: Age had a significant effect on survival time in the univariate model (p<0.05). Sex, colonic localization, lymphnode involvement, histological grade, metastatic status, surgical margin, diameter of metastases, number of metastases, leukocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes, NLR, CRP, albumin and CEA parameters had no significant effect on survivalin the univariate model (p>0.05).Conclusion: In our study, when a survival analysis was carried out on all variables, the only variable affecting survivalwas age. The mean age of the metasynchronous group was 56.2±10.6 years, and the mean age of the synchronousgroup was 61.3±11.1 years. Despite the numerical difference, there was no statistical significance (p=0.055). Althoughthe mean age of the synchronous group was numerically higher, the survival was longer. This may be due to the shortfollow-up time and the small sample sizePublication Metadata only The effect of bone mineral density on development of Schmorl’s nodes in young patients(2020) Naciye Sinem Gezer; Özlem AKINCI; Ali BALCI; umut özdamarlar; DOKUZ EYLÜL ÜNİVERSİTESİ; T.C. SAĞLIK BAKANLIĞI; DOKUZ EYLÜL ÜNİVERSİTESİ; BAHÇEŞEHİR ÜNİVERSİTESİObjective: The aim of this study was to detect the relationship between the development of Schmorl’s nodes (SNs) and bonemineral density (BMD) in young patients. Methods: Computerized tomography (CT) images of the thoracolumbar vertebral column were retrospectively examinedby two experienced radiologists for SNs. The diagnostic criterion for SN was defined as a node size larger than one-third butnot more than two-thirds of the relevant vertebral endplate. Considering the eligibility criteria, a total of 74 individuals (60males and 14 females, mean age: 24.3 years, age range: 18-40 years) with SN at the thoracolumbar vertebrae were includedin the patient group, and a total of 38 age- and gender-matched individuals (30 males and 8 females, mean age: 25 years)with no evidence of SN were included in the control group. All these individuals were younger than 40 years. In the patientgroup, SNs were assessed in terms of the distribution of the thoracolumbar vertebrae, the location of the upper and lowerendplates, and the total number of lesions. In all individuals included in the study, BMD was measured from the axial CTsections by quantitative CT and then compared between the two groups. Results: The distribution of age and gender was comparable between the two groups (p=0.438). A total of 208 SNs wereidentified in the patient group. Of these, 92 (44%) were located at the thoracic vertebrae and 116 (56%) at the lumbar vertebrae. The mean BMD was 131.6 g/cm3 in the patient group and 140.7 g/cm3 in the control group (p=0.03). There was nosignificant relationship between the total number of SNs per patient and the mean BMD (p=0.156).Conclusion: Evidence from this study revealed that low BMD may be a predisposing factor for the development of SNs inpatients younger than 40 years.Publication Metadata only Non Bis In Idem İlkesinin Vergi Ceza Hukukunda Uygulanması(2020) Nezih Sütcü; BAHÇEŞEHİR ÜNİVERSİTESİAvrupa İnsan Hakları Mahkemesi Kararlarına göre, vergi kaçakçılığı yapılması halinde, hem idari para cezası hem de hapis cezasının verilmesi Avrupa İnsan Hakları Sözleşmesi hü-kümlerine aykırı değildir. SAĞLIK BAKANLIĞIObjective: The aim of this study was to assess the clinical and radiological results of our high tibial osteotomy technique combining f ixator-assisted nailing and subtubercle tibial osteotomy in varus malalignment. Methods: This was a retrospective study of a consecutive series of 32 knees in 32 patients (‘2 follow-up loss’ 12 males and 18 females, mean age at the time of operation: 50.6±7.8 (36–62) years) operated on between 2014 and 2016. Radiographic and clinical measurements were assessed pre- and postoperatively. Kolmogorov-Smirnov, paired t and Wilcoxon rank tests were used in the statistical analyses. Results: The mean follow-up period was 36.1±8.15 (31–53) months, the mean duration of the hospital stay was 3.6±0.1 (2–6) days, and the mean Kellgren-Lawrence score was 2.4±0.6 (2–4). Time to bony union was an average of 16.17 (12–29) weeks. Compared to the preoperative mechanical medial proximal tibial angle, femorotibial angle and mechanical axis deviation measurements, all the postoperative values showed significant changes (p<0.01). However, there was no statistical difference between the preoperative and postoperative tibial slopes (p>0.05), and the postoperative Caton-Deschamps index did not show a meaningful change (p>0.05). T he postoperative visual analog scale, Knee Society Score, and Modified Hospital for Special Surgery Knee Scoring System measures showed significant improvement compared to the preoperative values (p<0.01). The postoperative walking distance increased to 1137.50±845.1 meters, from 359.4±306.2 meters (p<0.01). Conclusion: This percutaneous technique is minimally invasive, corrects the alignment in two planes, and does not affect patellar height. We believe that this technique could be a promising alternative to other knee preserving surgeries in correcting varus malalignment.Publication Metadata only Serum renalase and cerebellin levels in acute central serous chorioretinopathy(2020) Kamil Burak BİLGİN; mete güler; SELMA URFALIOGLU; Filiz ALKAN BAYLAN; Gamze Gizem Erayman; BAHÇEŞEHİR ÜNİVERSİTESİ; KAHRAMANMARAŞ SÜTÇÜ İMAM ÜNİVERSİTESİ; KAHRAMANMARAŞ SÜTÇÜ İMAM ÜNİVERSİTESİ; KAHRAMANMARAŞ SÜTÇÜ İMAM ÜNİVERSİTESİ; KAHRAMANMARAŞ SÜTÇÜ İMAM ÜNİVERSİTESİAim: To compare the blood renalase and cerebellin-1 levels of acute central serous chorioretinopathy(CSC) patients with healthy subjects.Method: A total of 33 eyes with acute naïve CSC (less than 2 months duration) and 31 healthysubjects were enrolled in this study. AKKOYUNLU; Alper Unal; Mete Tayanç; BAHÇEŞEHİR ÜNİVERSİTESİ; MARMARA ÜNİVERSİTESİ; MARMARA ÜNİVERSİTESİ; İSTANBUL TEKNİK ÜNİVERSİTESİ; MARMARA ÜNİVERSİTESİThe seasonal variation offine carbonaceous aerosol was evaluated in an urban traffic site in Istanbul. PM2.5samples were collected on selected days during four seasons between Jan 2017–Jan 2018. Daily PM2.5con-centrations were obtained experimentally by the gravimetric method in Beşiktaş, while hourly concentrationswere obtained from the Air Quality Monitoring Network of Istanbul in Çatladıkapı, Silivri, Kağıthane, andÜmraniye. Organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) concentrations were determined by a thermo-opticalcarbon analyzer for samples collected in Beşiktaş. The 24-h US-EPA air quality standard of 35μgm−3wasexceeded 13, 25, 41, 42, and 57% of the time in Çatladıkapı, Silivri, Kağıthane, Ümraniye, and Beşiktaş, re-spectively. These exceedances occurred mainly during the fall and winter owing to a combination of emissionsfrom fuel combustion for residential heating, traffic and industry, and poor air dispersion due to weak atmo-spheric motion and low mixing heights. Average OC concentrations ranged as 6.62–7.32μgm−3during springand summer, and 13.76–14.1μgm−3during fall and winter. The OC concentrations observed in this workduring the summer and winter were 2–4 and 3–6 times higher than concentrations observed in the USA andEurope, respectively. The EC concentrations did not show considerable seasonal variation, with values between2.16 and 3.26μgm−3. EC concentrations in Beşiktaşwere 7 and 9 times higher than concentrations observed inthe USA and Europe, in order. Results obtained in this study could be helpful for future implementation ofpolicies and strategies to reduce emissions from combustion sources in order to comply with the air qualitystandards.
