Abstract

Based on a survey of 340 firms in Turkey, this study examines the link between human resource management (HRM) practices and three organizational outcomes namely employee skills and abilities, employee motivation and organizational financial performance. The study also examines the association between the alignment of HRM practices with the overall strategic orientation of the organization and the three organizationaloutcomes.Theresultsprovidesupportforthecontingencyapproach, with HRM and strategy fit being the only variable which impacts on all three outcomes considered. Our findings also provide some interesting insights on the applicability of western HRM 'best' practices in the Turkish context. © 2010 Taylor & Francis. © 2010 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
