Abstract

In this paper, a novel design of frequency selective surface (FSS) consisted of F and II shapes for resonating on ultrawide frequency band is presented. The F and II shapes are applied on different sides of dielectric layer for analyzing the effectiveness of the frequency selective surface (FSS). At the normal incidence case the proposed bandstop FSS structure provides high reflectivity for ultrawide band applications operating in C-band (4-8 GHz), X-band (8-12 GHz) and Ku-band (12-18 GHz). Front side of the designed FSS structure consists of nested three square rings with II shape and the other side of the structure consists of the F shape formed by rotating the lines 90 degrees. Simulation results show that the proposed low-profile FSS structure provides transmission coefficient below-10 dB in the frequency range of 3.05-19.92 GHz. The novel F and II shaped UWB FSS structure provides high reflectivity performance at wider frequency bandwidth than previous works. The designed FSS offers advantages with its two-sided layer, miniaturized geometry and broadband operating frequency characteristics. The measurement and simulation results are in agreement and the proposed FSS has been proven to be suitable for UWB applications as a reflector for satellite platforms. © 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
