In the beginning of time, humankind was used residence only as place where can be protected himself from danger and then in the course of time meaning of residence was changed. Residence became a consumable item as a prestige and status symbol in this day and time. Physical features of the residence seem to be preferential, but emotional belonging to the residence is also important for household. The physical features of the residence are defined as physical dimension and relation with the residence is identified as emotional aspect. A residence is integral with its environment and thus residence immediate environment has an important position at the meaning given to the dwelling. The bond between residence and residence immediate environment effects the preferences. In this work the meaning of satisfaction and belonging at the choice of residence is analyzed within the scope of residence and residence immediate environment. The aim of research in this sense was to seek an answer of question what affects the choices of household. The notions of satisfaction and sense of belonging are studied in two different aspects such as residence and residence immediate environment (district/town). Bakırköy district one of the important district of Istanbul metropolis because of its cultural and also social diversity is selected as field survey place. Urban apartments with traditional neighborhood structure and gated communities having different life style in Bakırköy district are included to this research. In this dissertation study the notions of satisfaction and sense of belonging are studied within the scope of residence and residence immediate environment by using of depth interview and interview questionnaire one of the qualitative research after an extensive literature survey. The personal characteristics and choices, communication with residence and residence immediate environment of household is studied by using of satisfaction and belonging content analysis method in the study scope. The topics obtained after content analysis are discussed under main heads of satisfaction and sense of belonging. Location choices, residence choice reasons, ideal spatial environment, residence immediate environment factors, car park, neighborhood, choices of household are related with the topics concerning to the satisfaction. The sense of belonging to neighborhood and town attracts attention at the topics of sense of belonging. Location, residence, habits, recognized environment, choices of household and residence immediate environment factors are topic titles which are relative to sense of belonging. Research findings and results are shown that residence- residence immediate environment features and residence- residence immediate environment relation play an important role at the satisfaction and sense of belonging of persons. The relations of the factors that affect satisfaction and sense of belonging are commented with the aid of appeared topics. It is considered necessary that choices and desires of household who are dominant user groups should be taken into consideration within the context of their needs on the decision relative to residence- residence immediate environment and the household should be actively participated to the design process.
