Abstract

This study involves a review of the models developed for sound reduction indexes of multi-layered structures. The three computerized model compared to investigate the differences are: 1 .Insul based on the sound transmission theories and Sharp Model 2. Acousys employing the transfer matrix and the windowing techniques, 3. FMulay based on the improved impedance model for the finite size structures. 65 different building elements composed of different configurations were employed in the computations which resulted in terms of both single number rating unit (R<inf>w</inf>) and the frequency domain sound transmission losses. Statistical analysis of the results indicated that the Acousys and FMulay are better correlated. When the calculated data was compared with the earlier experimental results to provide verification, the Insul yielded slightly better compatibility with the laboratory data at high frequencies whereas the lower frequency results indicate similarity to those of the other two models. © 2013 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
