After the devastating earthquake on February 6, 2023, the importance of analyzing Turkey's current building stock to rethink construction technologies and materials used became clear. Databases of existing building materials are needed to achieve improvements. This study aims to partially fill the data gap required for the development of future strategies, especially regarding the construction technologies and materials used in existing residential buildings. To this end, existing statistical data were gathered, limited, simplified and documented. Material intensities were then estimated and the potential of global warming as a sustainability factor was assessed. The results of the study demonstrate the significant impact of residential buildings on Turkey's urban material stock and provide a data base for future calculations towards a more environmentally friendly building stock. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
