Abstract

Background: The aim of this study was to determine knowledge levels about dental market products in tomorrow’s dentists at Marmara University. Methods: The cross-sectional study was applied to 140 students who were first and fifth grade dental students at Marmara University. Information form, consent form, and the survey were used as data collection tools. The survey with 26 questions contains three parts, demographic information, vocational training, and knowledge about dental market products. Descriptive data was given as percentage distribution. The data were subjected to analysis by MedCalc version18.11.3, p<0.05 was considered significant. Chi-square test was used to compare categorical variables. Results: Of the 140 students who participated in the research, 60 (37 female, 23 male) were first-year students and 80 (51 female, 29 male) were fifth-grade students. 72 percent of fifth-grade students stated that they received training on dental marker products during their undergraduate education. While the least correct answer of first-grade students was to the question about fluoride activity (3%), the least correct answer of the fifth-grade students was to the question about the usage of nursing bottle (12,5%). Almost all of the information questions have more correct answers given by fifth grade students. However, it is seen that first year students have more information about ideal bottle structure. Conclusion: Even in the last year of dental education, it is seen that the level of knowledge of the students about dental market products is insufficient. Continuing training courses can help resolve deficiencies and uncertainties in education. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
