Patient monitoring via WAP based medical information system in emergency service

Abstract

Mobile patient monitoring systems give advantages especially in emergency services. Mobile devices such as pocket PCs, tablet PCs, PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant) and cellular phones support medical information systems. Wireless application protocol (WAP) plays a communication layer between hand sets and web servers. This study emphasizes wireless application protocol version of emergency service application that developed and implemented at Tablet PC environment before. A WAP based prototype is developed for the Emergency Service of Acibadem Hospital in Lstanbul. In this paper, the advantages and disadvantages of WAP based applications are summarized. © 2008 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
