Abstract
Singapore has such diverse linguistical settings that it has four official languages: English, Malay, Tamil, and Mandarin Chinese. In Singapore, English has been taken as a national and international lingua franca (Pakir, 2010) and as a language that connects this island city- state to the rest of the world (Low & Pakir, 2018). To meet the country's needs, the English Language (EL) Curriculum and Pedagogy Review Committee (ELCPRC) was set up in September 2005 to revise and reshape the teaching and learning of English in Singapore schools (CA International, 2017). Having different school types based on the needs of the students, the curriculum was designed according to the needs of 21st- century pupils. Considering mastering skills such as critical thinking and problem- solving, it can be said that Singapore's EL curriculum sufficiently meets the needs of its students. © 2023 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
