Abstract

Green chemistry offers the opportunity to develop chemical products and processes that minimize or completely stop the formation of hazardous pollutants. Green synthesis of plant-based nanoparticles is currently considered the most preferred technique due to its versatility and ease of application. This study aims to synthesize AgNPs using the aqueous extract of Olea europaea L. and to produce nanofibers from PLA polymer doped with these synthesized nanoparticles by electrospinning. UV-Vis spectroscopy, optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to characterize the synthesized nanoparticles. The effective synthesis of AgNPs was proven by the observation of a surface plasmon resonance peak at 429 nm using UV-Vis analysis. Synthesized AgNPs were revealed to have a face-centered cubic structure by XRD analysis, and the average diameter was measured as 6±4 nm by TEM. Olea europaea L extract containing AgNPs showed antibacterial activity against E Coli. In addition, optical microscopy examinations showed that the homogeneity of nanofibers increased due to nanoparticle doping. The average size of nanoparticle doped nanofibers produced by electrospinning was measured as 0.96 ± 0.41 µm. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
