Abstract
This chapter uses data from a nationwide survey of values and fertility behavior. Hence, it analyzes the association between values, norms and ideology on attitudes and behavior concerning family planning and contraception. Particular attention is paid to religious values, political ideology, conservatism/ liberalism and materialistic/ post- materialistic variables, and gender equity as independent variables to assess their impact on attitudes and behavior related to fertility preferences and use of contraceptives. Determinants of contraceptive method choice (modern vs. traditional) are also analyzed in detail. © 2024 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
