Abstract

Cancer-related deaths are at the top of the list in developed countries. Research on cancer treatment continues without slowing down. The interaction of light with biological samples is also under the scope of many research studies. Numerous studies have been conducted in the field of the use of laser applications in cancer treatment. The main purpose of this particular study was to investigate the laser photobiomodulation (PBM) effect of visible red (660nm) and near-infrared (808nm) laser irradiation at 2 and 8 J/cm2 of energy densities on the viability of human lung cancer cell lines (A549) and human healthy lung cell line (MRC5). The preliminary data obtained from MTT assay results have shown that laser PBM of 660nm laser irradiation at 2 J/cm2 energy density might have stimulated the viability of the healthy human lung cell line (MRC5) significantly more than the cancer cell line (A549). The results might show promising potential for future studies on using laser PBM in cancer treatment to stimulate the viability of healthy cells and inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells. © 2024 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
