Abstract

The study has been carried out to determine relationship between perception of nurses' presence and self-care activity levels of individuals who are diagnosed with cancer. This research, which has a descriptive-relationship seeking design, was carried out with 188 individuals who received inpatient treatment in the hospitals of a health group in Istanbul between January and April 2019 and who agreed to participate in the study. Data were collected by using Individual Characteristics Form, Nursing Presence Scale, and Patient Activity Level Measurement Tool. It was determined that 25.5% of the individuals had breast cancer. It was found that 67.6% of individuals diagnosed with cancer were at Level 1 in terms of activity. While mean rank of Nursing Presence Scale was significantly higher (p <0.001) for those who evaluated the level of satisfaction with nursing as 10 points, it was found that the mean rank of Patient Activity Level Measurement Tool was significantly lower for those who evaluated 6 points and below. Significantly positive weak correlation was found between mean ranks of the Nursing Presence Scale and Patient Activity Level Measurement Tool (r = 0.309, p <0.001). The results of the research It shows that cancer patients have high perception of nursing presence and low activity levels, and as the level of perception of nursing presence increases the level of patient activity increases. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
