Abstract

Thermal load and non-linear effects put important limitations to the rapid progress of high-power fiber laser technologies. Thermal effect which limits the average power can be minimized by using low-doped, longer fibers with low gain, while the presence of non-linear effects requires the use of high-doped, shorter fibers in order to maximize the peak power. The proposed solution for the problem is to use varying doping levels along the short fiber to circumvent the trade-off between thermal load and non-linear effects. The study shows that two different approaches to mitigate the temperature levels above the intended temperature value. © 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
