When they travel, they also have problems to move in spaces and to use the services due to the physical constraints of the environment. In order to make them use all the facilities and services, structured environment has to be designed without any obstacle. Today, fast and safe transportation is a requirement of the contemporary life style. Airlines are preferred more than the other alternative traveling channels since it is faster and safer. Travelling with airlines administers great convenience; therefore it also becomes desirable for disabled people. In this study, Istanbul Ataturk Airport was selected as a case study due to the fact that it is the largest active airport in Turkey and also has a significant role in international arrival and departure. Physically and visually disabled people were investigated to find out whether design decisions contribute to the independency of these people while they use the spaces in the airport. İstanbul Atatürk Airport, which has awarded with a certificate for the accessibility of disabled people, was analyzed in three stages. First, representatives of service providers for the disabled people in the airport have been interviewed. Then, the airport has been examined with its accessibility standards and finally interviews have carried out with physically and visually disabled people. It has been observed that representatives of service providers were satisfied with the accessibility conditions and services of the airport. However it was also found that the interviewed disabled users were not aware of the available services, hence they do not demand more than what they experienced in the airport. According to the results of three staged analysis, it was found that a coordination is required between the service providers and design decision makers to overcome the inadequacy of the physical environment and services. It was also observed that user experience is the real source of feedback to provide accessibility in airports.
