Abstract
Tarihi Kent Merkezleri, farklı medeniyetlerin görkemli dönemlerine tanık olmuş ve
büyümeye, gelişmeye hatta çöküşlerine dair izlerini taşımışlardır. Günümüzde birçok
kent merkezini sağlıklılaştırmak, yenilemek ve turizm eksenli canlandırılmasını
sağlamak amacıyla çalışmalar yapıldığı görülmektedir. Yerel yönetimlerin bu yenileme
akımıyla, geçmişten günümüze ışık tutan mimariler, el işçilikleriyle ünlü çeşmeler,
manevi büyüklerin ebedi ziyaretgâhları yarınlara tarihi dokularıyla ulaştırılması hedef
alınmıştır.
Tez çalışmasında, Eyüp İlçesi örneği üzerinden Kudüs, Medine ve Mekke’den sonra
İslam âleminin en önemli dini merkezlerinden biri olarak bilinen Eyüp Sultan Tarihi
Kent Merkezi’nin yenileme süreci ele alınmaktadır. Tez kapsamında, camii, meydan
düzenlemeleri, arastası, yayalaştırma uygulamaları, bina yenilemeleri, turizm eksenli
çalışmalar incelenmiştir. Çalışmada, koruma odaklı, planlı bir kentsel yenileşmenin
sosyal, ekonomik ve fiziksel açıdan gerekliliği üzerinde durulmakta, Eyüp tarihi kent
merkezine özgü, kimlikli bir kentsel yenileme yaklaşımının çerçevesi çizilmektedir.
Historical City Centers are witnesses of magnificent periods of various civilizations and bear traces of their expansion, development and even downfall. Nowadays there are several projects carried out in order to sanitize, renovate city centers and achieve tourism-centric revitalization. With this renovation movement, local governments aim to carry architectural structures, fountains famous with the craftsmanship, eternal abodes of spiritual elders to the future. In my thesis, the renovation process of Eyüp Sultan Historical City Center, considered as one of the most important religious centers of Islamic world after Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem, has been elaborated on. Within the scope of the thesis, arrangement of mosque and the center, Ottoman bazaar, pedestrianization, building renovation, tourism related work have been examined. In the thesis, social, economic and physical necessity of planned urban renovation with a preservation focus is stressed and the framework for an urban renovation with a unique identity characteristic to Eyüp historical center is set.
