Item The role of ipad in dentistry patient education and consultations(Bahçeşehir Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, 2013-05) Canbazoğlu, Erokan; Salman, Yücel BatuSmartphones and tablet devices are becoming increasingly popular day by day. With the world changing and technology evolving year by year, business world is constantly growing more dependent on technology at an ever-expanding rate. With iPad, the clear-cut winner in the tablet market, almost all the business fields are making use of the new devices from Apple in their own workflows. IPad is transforming the way businesses works with the power of mobile solutions. In spite of advanced technology, there is not sufficient rich illustrative content for dentist in dental sector especially in implantology. According to user research results, most of the dentists struggle to build an image in their patients’ minds just by the help of words. Therefore words are so inadequate. In addition to this, dentists desperately attempt to draw some sketching in an effort to explain the treatment plan to their patients but generally speaking, most of them are not good at pen and sketching. Real case photographs are sometimes of help in explaining cases. However, it has been witnessed that considerable numbers of patients get annoyed by “bloody” pictures, particularly in implant cases. To eliminate these drawbacks dental hard and soft tissues were modeled in 3D programs and most frequent implant cases on educative basis were prepared for both dentists and their patients. The goal of this master thesis is to develop an application called “Implant Treatment Guide (ITG)” with an emphasis on user interface and usability of the ITG. The ITG application enhances the presentation of implants and implant-supported prosthetic treatments to the patients with rich 3D illustrative content. It makes expressing treatment plans easier for dentists needing to convey surgical operations to their patients. Finally, usability (ease of use and usefulness) of the ITG app will be determined by using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM).
